Pharmacological Action
Dimetridazole is an antiprotozoal agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial and antiprotozoal activity.
It is effective against:
- Anaerobic bacteria
- Escherichia coli
- Vibrio
- Streptococcus
- Staphylococcus
- Treponema
It also has activity against protozoa such as:
- Trichomonas
- Ciliates
- Amoeba
Drug Interactions
Do not use in combination with other anti-trichomoniasis drugs.
Indications
Antiprotozoal agent.
Used for:
- Swine dysentery caused by Treponema
- Histomoniasis (blackhead disease) in poultry
Adverse Reactions
Chickens are sensitive to this product. High doses may cause:
- Ataxia
- Liver and kidney damage
Precautions
- Do not combine with other anti-trichomoniasis drugs.
- Continuous use in chickens should not exceed 10 days.
- Not for use in laying hens producing eggs for human consumption.
Withdrawal Period
- Pigs: 28 days
- Chickens: 28 days
