Pharmacological Action
Vitamin preparation.
Vitamin C forms a reversible redox system with dehydroascorbic acid in the body. This system plays an important role in biological oxidation-reduction reactions and cellular respiration.
It promotes iron absorption in the intestine, enhances resistance to infections, and improves liver detoxification function.
Approximately 25% binds to plasma proteins. It is metabolized in the liver and mainly excreted unchanged in urine; excess is converted to oxalic acid.
