Pharmacological Action
Neomycin has an antibacterial spectrum similar to kanamycin. When administered orally, it is mainly used for intestinal infections. For topical use, it is effective against infections of the skin, eyes, ears, and endometritis caused by Staphylococcus and Gram-negative bacteria.
Indications
For poultry infections caused by refractory Escherichia coli, including:
- Pericarditis
- Perihepatitis
- Duck serositis
- Salpingitis
Symptoms include depression, anorexia, nasal and ocular discharge, neck retraction, diarrhea, and dyspnea.
- For pigs, cattle, and sheep:
- Intestinal diseases such as diarrhea caused by bacterial and viral infections
Precautions
- Use with caution in laying hens.
- Oral administration may interfere with the absorption of Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, and cardiac glycosides.
Withdrawal Period
- Chickens: 5 days
- Turkeys: 14 days
