Pharmacological Action
Enrofloxacin is a veterinary broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic.
Its mechanism of action is to inhibit bacterial DNA gyrase, preventing DNA supercoiling and causing chromosomal damage, leading to bacterial death.
It is highly effective against:
- Escherichia coli
- Salmonella
- Klebsiella
- Brucella
- Pasteurella
- Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
- Erysipelothrix
- Proteus
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Mycoplasma
- Chlamydia
Indications
Clinically used for intestinal infections in livestock caused by:
- Bacteria
- Viruses
- Fungi
- Parasites
- Stress or unknown causes
Especially effective for:
- Piglet diarrhea (yellow/white scours)
- Clostridial enteritis
- Paratyphoid
- Edema disease
- Swine dysentery
- Spirochetal infections
Clinical signs include:
- Depression
- Loss of appetite
- Abdominal pain
- Chills
- Foul-smelling diarrhea (gray-green or brown)
