Pharmacological Action
Carbachol is a cholinergic agonist.
It has:
- High selectivity for gastrointestinal and bladder smooth muscle
- Strong stimulatory effect on GI motility and bladder contraction
- Minimal effect on the cardiovascular system
It is resistant to hydrolysis by cholinesterase, resulting in a prolonged effect.

Cholinergic drug.
Used for:
- Gastrointestinal atony
- Urinary retention
- Retained placenta
- Pyometra
Adverse Reactions
High doses may cause:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Dyspnea
- Respiratory distress
Precautions
- Contraindicated in:
- Intestinal obstruction
- Traumatic reticulitis
- Pregnant animals
- In case of overdose, treat with:
