Pharmacological Action
Flunixin meglumine is a potent cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor with analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-rheumatic effects.
Indications
For livestock and small animals suffering from:
- Fever
- Inflammatory diseases
- Muscle pain
- Soft tissue pain
Such as:
- Mastitis-metritis-agalactia (MMA) syndrome in sows
Adverse Reactions
In dogs, adverse reactions may include:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Gastrointestinal ulcers
Precautions
- Do not use in animals with:
- Gastrointestinal ulcers
- Bleeding disorders
- Hypersensitivity to flunixin
- Cardiovascular disease
- Liver or kidney dysfunction
- Dehydration
- When used for acute abdomen, it may mask symptoms caused by endotoxemia or intestinal inactivity; use with caution.
