Pharmacological Action
Chlortetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It has strong activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, hemolytic Streptococcus, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium tetani, and Clostridium spp.
It is also effective against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Brucella, and Pasteurella. Its antibacterial activity is stronger than tetracycline and oxytetracycline.
Oral absorption in chickens is incomplete, with low bioavailability. Clinically, it is mainly used for the prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory disease and colibacillosis in poultry.
Indications
Antibiotic drug.
Used for the treatment of infections in chickens caused by susceptible Escherichia coli and mycoplasma.
Adverse Reactions
Long-term use may cause gastrointestinal flora imbalance.
Precautions
- Not for use in laying hens producing eggs for human consumption.
- Do not use concurrently with penicillins or products containing calcium, iron, or other multivalent metal ions, or sodium bicarbonate.
- Concurrent use with strong diuretics may increase renal toxicity.
- Do not mix with chlorinated tap water or alkaline solutions.
